The Fundamental Articles of Faith
The true, faithful Muslim believes in the following principle articles of faith:
One God
A true Muslim believes in One God, “Allah”, the Supreme and the Eternal, the Infinite and the Mighty, the Merciful and the Compassionate, the Creator and the Provider.
The Messengers
He/She believes in all Messengers of God without any discrimination among them. Every known nation had a Warner or Messenger from Allah. They were chosen by Allah to teach mankind and deliver His divine message. The Qur’an mentions the names of twenty five of them. Among them Muhammed (PBUH) stands as the last Messenger and the crowning glory of the foundation of the prophethood.
The Scriptures
The Muslim believes in all scripture and revelation of God. They were the guiding light which the messengers received to show their respected people the Right Path of God. The scriptures God mentioned in the Qur’an are as follows:
- The original Scrolls as revealed to Abraham (PBUH).
- The original Torah as revealed to Moses (PBUH)
- The original Psalms as revealed to David (PBUH)
- The original Injeel (Gospel of Jesus) as revealed to Jesus (PBUH)*
- The Qur’an as revealed to Muhammed (PBUH) (which is still available in its original form)
But long before the revelation of the Qur’an to prophet Muhammed (PBUH) most of those books and revelations has been lost or corrupted. Today the only authentic and complete book of God in existence is the Qur’an.
The Angels
The true Muslim believes in the Angels of Allah. They are purely spiritual and splendid beings whose nature requires no food or drink or sleep. They spend their days and nights in the worship of Allah. They are honoured servants, assigned certain functions, they do not speak before Allah does, and they act only by His command.
The Day of Judgement
A true Muslim believes in the Day of Judgment, this world will come to an end some day, and the dead will rise to stand for their final and fair trial. People with good records will be generously rewarded and warmly welcomed to the Heaven of Allah, and those with bad records will be punished and cast into Hell.
Predestination
A true Muslim believes in Fate, whether good or bad, which Allah, had measured and ordained for all creatures according to His previous knowledge and as deemed suitable by His wisdom, and in the timeless knowledge of Allah and His power to plan and execute His plans and nothing could happen in His Kingdom against His Will. His knowledge and power are in action at all times and command over His creation. He is wise and merciful, and whatever He does must have a meaningful purpose, if this is established in our minds and hearts, we should accept with good Faith all that He does, although we may fail to understand it fully, or think it is bad.
* The different gospels in today’s Bible were written after the time of Jesus (PBUH) by other authors. The Injeel mentioned in the Qur’an refers only to the revelations that came through Jesus, the son of Mary
