The Journey.
Destination Islam represents the culmination of my personal journey to Islam. I came back to Islam in 2010 after finally reading the Qur’an in my language (English) and realising that it answered all the questions I had about my purpose on Earth. It was then my learning journey really started.
In the early stages I encountered confusion after confusion. One Muslim would tell me one thing, while another would tell me something completely opposite. I tried going to different mosques to learn, but I soon realised that most of them were based on the culture or background of the people running them. They insisted that their way was the right way and I should not even think about going into other mosques as they would teach me the wrong thing. I really couldn’t understand how such a beautiful message sent to us by Allaah via the Qur’an and Prophet Muhammad (Peace and blessing of Almighty Allaah be upon him) could be causing so much confusion and division amongst Muslims.
As I was going through this period of confusion, I heard a speech by Yusuf Estes, an American Christian preacher who reverted to Islam in 1991. He said something that kept going around in my head,
“I came to Islam because of what Islam teaches, not what the Muslims do.”
I realised that this was the solution. As humans we are good at changing, personalising and generally adding our viewpoints as we pass on information, whether this is in religion or any other subject. But, Allaah promised that he would protect the Qur’an. So the answer seemed simple, I had to go back to the source. This being the Qur’an, the Sunnah of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (Peace and blessing of Almighty Allaah be upon him), and the teachings and actions of the first 3 generations of Muslims. Then the confusion started to fade away.
Every effort is made to ensure that all the information on Destination Islam is based strictly on the Quran and the Sunnah, while all madhabs and schools of thought are respected. Over 10 years later, I am still learning new things every day about this beautiful faith, and I invite you to join me on the journey. Muslim or not I hope you find this site informative and I welcome your feedback, suggestions and questions. We can agree to disagree without getting upset at each other and if you find a mistake then please let us know and it will be corrected.
If you have read this far then you really do deserve a medal. Why don’t you join me for a virtual coffee and let me bore you about this beautiful faith that I am falling more and more in love with every day? I promise I’ll pay.
